Captured on the second day of the eruption in July 2025 on the Reykjanes Peninsula, this photograph reveals a fissure opening across the surface of the earth, releasing fresh lava into the surrounding landscape. Shot at golden hour, the low light enhances the contrast between the glowing lava and the vast expanse of dark volcanic terrain.

From above, the eruption appears both violent and controlled, a thin, luminous line cutting through fields of newly formed rock. Bright bursts of lava emerge along the fracture, while drifting gas and steam soften the scene, blurring the boundary between solid ground and moving fire.

In its early stage, the eruption feels almost fragile, as if the land has only just begun to open. A fleeting moment where the earth reshapes itself in real time, marking the beginning of a landscape that will continue to evolve long after the fire fades.
